"History of Paris: Church of St Paul and St Louis. The 16th of March 1627, Louis XIII laid the first stone of this Jesuit church. Constructed by Father François Derand according to the designs of Brother Martellange, it was consecrated the 9th of May 1641 in the name of St Louis. Famous for its preachers, notably Bourdaloue, it possessed rich furnishings and many works of art in harmony with its Italian Baroque-inspired style. The majority disappeared during the Revolution. At its reopening in 1802, the church adopted the name of St-Paul-St-Louis to conserve the memory of the parish church of St Paul, situated in the street of the same name and destroyed in 1799."
